This violin is a copy of the “Gibson” 1713, and is a classic example of design from Stradivari’s “Golden Period” (1700-1725). The violin was named after English violinist/violist George Alfred Gibson (1849-1924). He also owned the 1734 Stradivari “Gibson” viola). The original “Gibson” 1713 is currently owned
by master violinist, Joshua Bell, and is his primary performance violin.

The top is two pieces of spruce with very straight, narrow grain and light figuring. The back is quartersawn maple with medium flame. The figuring on both top and back is accentuated by buttery, medium red-brown coloring (not as red as the original) which has been lightly shaded to reveal the
golden reflective ground. The finish presents a subtle antiqued appearance. The precise joinery and purfling have resulted in clean lines and elegant curves. The varnish is hand brushed.

The violin tonality and bow response is articulate and smooth, with ample projection, and is very pleasing under the ear in intimate or live settings. With a comfortable, moderate action for fingering, this hand-crafted violin is suitable for solo or ensemble performance for advanced students or professionals alike.
