(Used) Orpheum 1915-1920 No.1 Tenor Banjo
This Orpheum No. 1 is in very good condition. It has had a number or modifications and maintenance in its hundred years of use. The pot has been fitted with a clear head and new bridge. The dowel rod has been replaced and modified to attach an aftermarket resonator. The tuners have also been replaced. This banjo sounds and plays wonderfully! This tone ring design is unique and has a very full sound. Send us a message if you have any questions about this Orpheum banjo!
The Orpheum brand launched as a banjo line in 1897 by Rettberg and Lange who bought the remains of the Buckbee Banjo Company. Following the retirement of Reggberg around 1922, the name was used by Lange on banjos and guitars until folding in 1942.
The banjo is built with heavy-duty hard maple rim with fancy veneers in the inner and outer edges as well as a good maple "rim cap" on the bottom, flamed-maple 3-piece neck with bound dyed-hardwood fretboard and detailed multi-layer headstock veneer, and the Orpheum-style archtop tonering.
The tonering consists of a large hoop set on the interior of the rim, raised up on flattened studs-like appendages that then connect to the outer sleeve where the edge of the head is mounted. This design gives the Orpheums their magical sound -- a projecting, clucky, bright but warm tonality with overtones and sustain that complements rather than detracts from the overall sound.

While we do a basic cleaning and setup before shipping, we are unable to make any modifications to, or guarantees of condition, and or history, outside of what we have personally found, or been informed of by the consignment owner, which will be included in the description.
