The Wilson (WA-5) A-Style Mandolin #025 w/Engleman Spruce Top & Maple Back & Sides
The Wilson WA-5 is based on the blueprint for the one and only Gibson A-5, a tear drop shaped, non-scroll bearing model, with label dated and signed by Lloyd Loar (#74003, 9/20/23), referred to as the “Griffith Loar.” With a body approximately ¾” longer than the F-5 (and subsequent A-5 models that followed), forward arching and smaller as well as angled f-hole apertures and snakehead peghead design, the “Griffith Loar” was unique and similar in tonality as the Loar era F-5 models. Wilson WA-5 models are an attempt to closely replicate and capture the spirit of the “Griffith Loar.” Tone wood, hardware and construction are basically the same as for the WF-5.
